GBBO Challenge Week 3: Party Pinwheel Bread with Bell Pepper Pesto

Bread week! My favorite week on GBBO, together with pastry. Bread week has a knack of bringing out the best ánd the worst in bakers. And let's not forget that the winner of bread week has quite a big chance of making it to the final (season 1 through 3 saw the winner of bread week winning the whole thing, while Ruby made it to the final last year). Luís has been on my final three list since last week, I'd say he's now statistically a sure thing! But it's Richard whom I have based this week's (showstopper) bake on. I loved his idea of a pinwheel bread, which I later found out is a "kalács" in Hungary. But a party pesto pinwheel bread just alliterates way better, so I stuck with that. I adapted Richard's recipe as I thought his bread was a little too big to be eaten by my four-headed family, and added a bit more liquid. The result is a super tasty bread which will do well on any party or get-together! Tear and share taken to a new level!

GBBO Challenge Week 2: Cheddar Biscuits with Garlic and Chives

Last week, the Great British Bake Off was all about biscuits. Savory, sweet and notoriously difficult. Honestly, I didn't have to think twice about which challenge I was going to choose for my GBBO post as florentines are so, SO difficult to make! Maybe that should've been a reason to make them anyway, but what can I say: I'm lazy sometimes. Instead, I went for the signature challenge. I started off with the idea of making a biscuit based on Frisian "Riperkrite" cheese, which is flavored with garlic, chives and celery leaves. But as celery leaves are difficult to incorporate into biscuits I went with this Anglo-French combination instead!

GBBO Challenge Week 1: Mary's Cherry Cake

I'm aware I'm quite late with this.. The second episode of the Great British Bake Off (GBBO) is pretty much about to air and here I am with a post about the first episode! I watched the first episode at my friend's house after a baking marathon for the competition I told ya'll about. I was travelling, and since my parents are on holiday I haven't had many eaters for my baking. Anyway, I want to do a challenge for each GBBO episode, and I thought I might as well start with Mary's lovely cherry cake. You can expect a GBBO themed post every week from now on out!

Linzer Cookies

My competition tart didn't leave me with any prizes, but fortunately I did have a great time and earned some money for charity which is always a fantastic bonus! I did have some ingredients leftover in the fridge and freezer and since I don't like wasting such fabulous homemade goodness I set out to make these linzer cookies!

Nutty About Strawberries Tart

Finally, it is here! The recipe I'm using for an upcoming cake/tart/pie competition. This strawberry and pistachio tart is to die for! I couldn't get enough of the pistachio and white chocolate cream. I was testing this recipe and I made way too much of the cream, lesson learned! I think I gained a pound only looking at it. But ohmy was it yummy and SO worth it. Best YOLO-food ever - did I just say that? Oh yes I said it!
